Carnival in Chinaillon

In Chinaillon, above Le Grand Bornand, the winter carnival started with a torch light descent by the ESF ski instructors.

The parade celebrated winter clothes and snow gear from 19th and 20th century – accompanied by more modern music!

Tossing the caber? No, 2.2 metre wooden skis, all the rage in their time.

Moustaches were de rigueur.

“Where is the nearest hotel?”

The local school children made their own carnival masks.

We wenjoyed the oyster and Champagne bar – a good, new innovation, and very popular.

Charmingly served too.

And to round off the parade, two horses = one cow, belt out Minnie the Moocher!
